Description:

Active Receiver/Transmitter to increase cable length of HDSP Systems

Active receiver/transmitter to increase the cable length of the HDSP system. Up to 66 ft cable length between computer and Digiface/Multiface!

Can not be used as Firewire repeater!

Using a Repeater and two 33 ft Firewire cable, a distance of up to 66 ft is possible between interface and I/O box. A switchable electrical isolation (Ground Lift) removes hum loops and failure caused by different power circuits.
The connection between CardBus card and I/O box is established using ordinary firewire cable (closed LAN to IEEE 1394.) The data transfer does not use Firewire protocol, but our own proprietary bus protocol. The supplied cable is 4.5 m (15 ft.) long, a cable length up to 10 m (33 ft.) has been successfully tested. At cable lengths of 33 ft and above the use of a Repeater is highly recommended. Such a device refreshes the signal, thus allowing double cable length. The RME HDSP Repeater offers these operation modes:

Standard PCI Card: The computer (PCI card) powers the Repeater, which passes the power on to the I/O box.

Ground Lift PCI Card: The computer (PCI card) powers the receiver part of the Repeater. The transmitter is powered via any small power supply. The I/O box is not powered from the Repeater, but from the optional HDSP switching power supply.

Standard CardBus: As the CardBus card does not send power to the Repeater, it has to be powered via any small power supply. As known from CardBus operation, the I/O box will be powered from the optional HDSP switching power supply.

Note: The mode Ground Lift CardBus does not work (no power for the receiver part).
